What’s In A Name?

What’s In A Name?

Gen 2:19
”…And whatever Adam called each living creature that was its name

Whether it is the naming of your children, business or ministry, the importance of a name cannot be overemphasized. I find it very revealing that God handed over the naming of created things to Adam and yet looked on to “see what he what he would call them”. Gen 2:19. That means God is very interested in the name you give to things, and he affirms them to be so.

For instance Noah was named as such because he was believed to be the one who would comfort his family from the curse of the ground(Gen 5:29); and that’s exactly who he became. He built an ark that saved his family.

Here is why, I believe the naming of things should be taken seriously:

  1. It is the first assignment God gave to humanity. Adam did so in the garden of Eden and till date God expects us to exercise that authority of naming things.
  2. God Himself occasionally gave names to certain people because of their specific assignment on earth. He would often send an Angel to reveal the names of such people. People like John the Baptist, Solomon who was called Jedidiah and our Lord Jesus himself were named by God Himself.
  3. There are several occasions that God changed the names of people to befit their calling. For instance Abram became Abraham, Simon became Peter, whereas Sarai became Sarah.

Dear friend, I pray for you today that any negative nametag associated with you shall be removed in Jesus’ name.

May your tongue be loosened today to call out your future, that of your children and environment . The Bible says ”God calls those things which be not as though they were” (Rom 4:17).

Go ahead and create your own future by your words.
