Luke 2:49.
”Did you not know that I had to be about my Father’s business?”
One of the most shocking statements Jesus made about the ministry while on earth, was to call it a business. Unfortunately many people today still find this notion offensive. Yet the hard truth is that, the only way to succeed in life, is to have a business minded approach towards it.
Indeed, our God is a serious businessman and he expects His children to be likeminded. This is why I say so:
— He requires accountability from us.
In Gen 9, after the floods which destroyed the earth had receded, He put the law of accountability in place saying “and for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting..”
Gen 9:5; and indeed the real day of accountability is fast approaching.
— He does not countenance wastage.
No serious business man codones waste: whether it is a waste of resource or a waste of time. In the same way Jesus after feeding the multitude, charged his disciples; “let nothing go waste”. (John 6:12 )
How do you manage the little resources available to you?
— He expects increase/ profit from us.
His first instruction to Adam and Eve was for them “to increase and multiply”. (Gen 1:28) Again, concerning the Father’s relationship with His earthly children, Christ said to His disciples, “And for every branch in me that does not bear fruit He cuts off” (John 15:2.)
Dear friend believe me, your life is a serious business. In an effort to let His disciples understand, that God requires we have a business minded approach to His work and to life in general, Jesus said to them in the parable of the talents, “Do business till I come.” Luke 19:13
Rise up today, and let us go about the Father’s business, especially the business of winning souls. A great reward awaits you!
