1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. (Genesis 1:1-4)
Praise the Lord.
I am happy to be starting this 50-day journey with you as we study the book of Genesis together. The book of Genesis is an amazing book. It means the book of beginnings – and it starts with a bang – “In the beginning God…” This is deep. Genesis begins with the assumption that God is pre-existent, the unmoved mover, the omnipotent, omnipresent and all-powerful God, the creator of the universe.
The Bible says, “They that come to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6). This is a question of faith, not debate. God is! And in this 50-day journey, we are seeking to encounter God, and as we do, we must expect to be greatly rewarded by Him.
Genesis 1 tells the creation story and I find it amazing that this whole beautiful world was created by the words of God. He spoke the world into being. Indeed, the phrase “God said” is used 10 times and “God saw” appears 7 times in Genesis 1 alone. Now, that teaches a powerful lesson about how we can have all we want in this life. As people created in God’s image, we must also learn to speak out what we want and we will see it. If you can say it, you can see it.
“Then God said, “Let there be light…and God saw the light, that it was good.” (Gen. 1:3-4). This pattern follows all through chapter one.
Genesis 1 ends on a beautiful note – “And God saw everything that He made and indeed it was very good.” (Gen. 1:31). Beloved, this will be your portion as well; if you can keep speaking what you desire, you will eventually enjoy a very good life in Jesus’ name!
