Main Text: 2 Thessalonians 3:1-3

“Pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honoured…”

In 2 Thessalonians 3:1–3, the Apostle Paul asks the church to pray for him. His first request is striking: he asks them to pray that the Gospel would spread rapidly and be honoured.

Paul was a great apostle, yet he still recognized his need for prayer. This reminds us that there are times when every believer needs to humble themselves and say, “Please pray for me.”

But notice Paul’s priorities. His first concern was not his personal needs. It was the advancement of God’s kingdom.

God’s Kingdom Before Our Needs

Jesus taught a similar pattern in Luke 11:2–3:

“Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread.”

The prayer begins with God’s name and God’s kingdom before personal provision.

This does not mean we should not bring our needs to God. We should. But our prayers should not become entirely focused on what God can do for us.

Jesus also said:

“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”Matthew 6:33

The question is not only, “What do I want God to do for me?”

It is also:

“What is on God’s heart, and how can my life serve His purpose?”

We Are Called to Bear Fruit

Jesus makes our purpose clear in John 15:16:

“I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.”

We were chosen to bear fruit.

God has blessed us, not simply so that we can enjoy His blessings, but so that those blessings can flow through us to others.

This purpose has been part of God’s plan from the beginning. In Genesis 1:28, God commanded humanity to “be fruitful and increase in number” and fill the earth.

The same command was given to Noah after the flood (Genesis 9:1).

God’s desire has always been for His people to multiply, influence their surroundings, and make His purposes known.

Spread, Don’t Stay Comfortable

Jesus told His disciples:

“You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”Acts 1:8

The Gospel was never meant to remain in one place.

When the early church became established in Jerusalem, persecution scattered believers throughout Judea and Samaria (Acts 8:1). What looked like a setback became an opportunity for the Gospel to spread.

This gives us an important challenge:

Are we spreading God’s influence, or have we become too comfortable?

The Church must continue moving beyond its walls. We are called to take the Gospel into our workplaces, businesses, schools, communities, cities, and nations.

Wherever God has placed us, we should be making Christ known.

A Life That Influences Others

In Numbers 24:5–7, Balaam saw a beautiful picture of God’s people. He described them as valleys spreading out, gardens beside the river, and strong trees planted by the waters.

These images speak of expansion, fruitfulness, stability, and strength.

God wants His people to be rooted in Him while extending His influence around them.

Our faith should not be invisible.

Our character should point people to Christ.

Our businesses should create opportunities to serve.

Our resources should advance God’s kingdom.

Our homes should reflect God’s presence.

Our influence should make a difference wherever we go.

Paul describes this in 2 Corinthians 2:14, saying that God uses us to “spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.”

We are called to carry the aroma of Christ into the world.

What Is God Doing Through Your Life?

This message invites each of us to examine our lives.

Are we bearing fruit?

Are we helping others encounter Christ?

Are we using our influence for God’s kingdom?

Are our resources contributing to the spread of the Gospel?

Are we rooted and committed to God’s house?

It is easy to become focused on our own comfort, success, and personal breakthroughs. But God’s purpose is bigger than us.

We are blessed to be a blessing.

Spread or Scatter

The message is simple: God has called us to spread.

Spread the Gospel. Spread God’s love. Spread His influence. Spread His kingdom.

Let us not become so comfortable that we forget why God called us.

Paul’s prayer should become ours:

“Pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honoured.” — 2 Thessalonians 3:1

And as we pursue God’s kingdom, we can trust His promise:

“The Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” — 2 Thessalonians 3:3

Let us choose to spread. Let us bear fruit that remains. Let us make God’s kingdom our priority.
