“And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said: “Surely, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field which the Lord has blessed.” – Genesis 27:27
Genesis 27 teaches us about the Power of a Blessing. Make no mistake, blessings and curses are real and we see it all around us. They are often a product of spoken words. The Bible says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21).
In the case of Jacob, his parents orchestrated his blessings (both his father and mother). This is why you must honor your father and mother so that it will be well with you (Ephesians 6:2-3). Be it your Heavenly Father, spiritual father or biological parents, their words can have a great effect on you.
However, I am particularly intrigued by Isaac’s blessing on Jacob. He said, “Ah the smell of my son, like a field the Lord has blessed” (Genesis 27:27). Now that is loaded! What does it mean to be like a blessed field? The answer is in the subsequent words he spoke:
Wow, what a blessing! Today, I pronounce this blessing on all my sons and daughters, and to everyone who reads this material. May you smell like a field that is blessed and may you attract all the good qualities of a blessed field into your life.
Remember this blessing is irrevocable (Genesis 27:33) “… I have blessed him – and indeed he shall be blessed.” If you receive this, shout or type a big Amen in Jesus’ name!
