Luke 24:49.
”…but stay in the city, until you are clothed with power.”
The garment of power is probably one of the most important garments that every child of God should desire for. This garment is so crucial that Jesus urged his diciples not to attempt to move from Jerusalem until they were endued with it.
Believe me, power is of essence here on earth, be it political, spiritual or financial power; and people go lengths to attain power to the point of destroying others, consulting mediums or even shedding blood in the process.
I would like to categorize power into three broad types.
- The power of man.
When God created man, he gave him power to rule and have dominion over the earth (Gen 1: 28). This power has enabled the natural man to attain unimaginable heights such as going onto the moon and even under the sea, as well building aeroplanes, computers and skyscrapers. - Satanic power.
By virtue of sin, man gave his dominion over the earth to the devil and since then, the devil and his cohorts have wreaked havoc on earth, through demonic manipulations, magic arts and occultism among others.
Eph 6 :12 says “for we wrestle not against flesh and blood.. but against principalities, powers and rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places.” - The Power of God.
This is by far the greatest power on earth. It is called the power of the Holy Spirit and it is for you and your children’s children. (Acts 2: 39)
The Bible says “And you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you…” (Acts 1 :8)
Dear friend, trust me without the power of the Holy Spirit at work in your life, you will be at the mercy of wicked forces and your Christian witness will be ineffective.
Thankfully, you can receive the power of the Holy Spirit by prayer and seeking God’s face.
The Bible says “God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we think, ask or even imagine according to the power that is at work in us.” (Eph 3: 20)
May you be clothed with power from on high today and get ready for exploits!
